Fairfax County School System Budget Issues
FCPS is in a serious budget crisis: our school’s budget is slated to be cut by between $50 – $75 million in the next school year, touching every grade level. The budget process is happening now, and now is the time to raise our voices against these cuts. Here’s what you can do:
Raise your Voice:
Ø Like the #IAmFCPS Facebook page—and share! See the Take Action Now tab. https://www.facebook.com/
Ø Sign the parent-created petition to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors directing them to fully fund FCPS. http://bit.ly/FCPSpetition
Ø Submit letters to VA General Assembly representatives and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Members. In two minutes you can reach many elected officials.http://cqrcengage.com/IamFCPS/
Ø Join the #IAmFCPS campaign! As a volunteer group, we need more people across the county to help spread the message to policy makers, business groups, civic associations, FCPS teachers and staff, speakers of languages other than English, and more. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are many opportunities to make your voice heard. FCPS has made an online tool to allow you to submit to how the budget should be organized.
You can also attend any of the Fairfax County Council PTA meetings where Dr. Garza, our School System Superintendent, attends every meeting.
